 The Arthritis Reversal Smoothie

Today I made a smoothy especially for a dear friend of mine, Rose…who is struggling with arthritis and looking for ways to heal it through holistic ways.  And, what better way than to heal through healthy nutritional food?  At the bottom of this post you will find all of the sources and the reasons I have used these particular ingredients, and I call it The Arthritis Reversal Smoothie.  Below is the complete recipe. I haven’t made this before. I made it for the first time today. Let’s get started.

1 cup of fresh almond milk. Here’s how to make almond milk in the VitaMix.

1 teaspoon of turmeric, which you will gradually increase each time you makes this smoothie, with the ultimate goal of 2 TBS; but you’re supposed to start out slow with turmeric so you don’t upset your digestion.

1 chunk fresh organic ginger (1/2″ x 1/2″). Add that right into the VitaMix.

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.

1 organic banana, frozen or fresh, I’m used frozen today.  I always keep a stash of them in the freezer.

1 cup fresh or frozen organic pineapple, I’m using fresh.

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

1 large organic carrot or a handful of baby carrots.

2 Tbsp. hemp seed, which is optional.   I put that in there to make it a little more creamy, and to add some protein because protein is important to have at every meal.

Sunrise, Sunset

And there it is!  It’s gonna be rich and creamy! Full of  phytonutrients and anti-oxidants. Look at the color as you pour The Arthritis Reversal Smoothie into a beautiful jar to drink from. It’s golden, its orange-y, it’s yellow, it’s like a sunset and a sunrise all put together. It’s creamy… …and now my favorite part, tasting…  and to think that I created this specifically for arthritis reversal.

A hint of pineapple… I don’t taste the turmeric, so it must have been just the perfect starter amount. Don’t really taste the banana, but I feel it in there. And the almond milk is so refreshing and creamy. The turmeric has anti-inflamatory properties and joint rebuilding characteristics. Cinnamon’s in there somewhere, too, it’s all in there but it combines to make something new!  I LOVE IT! 🙂

I’ve never had anything like this before!  If you’re a baby boomer like me, and you were born somewhere between 1946 and 1964,  your joints need this. I feel very fortunate that I get to share this smoothy with you and hope that it will help!  Go ahead!  Test it!  Drink 1  Arthritis Reversal  Smoothy every morning or evening and see what happens.  Feel free to comment!  I would love to hear from you!  xo

Almond Milk: for Vitamin E (and EFAs and protein) (The Way of Ayurvedic Herbs, Karta Purkh Singh Khalsa and Michael Tierra, 2008; Healing with Whole Foods.

Turmeric: anti-inflammatory properties and joint-rebuilding characteristics (Robin Landis, Herbal Defense: Positioning Yourself to Triumph over Illness and Aging, 1997; The Way of Ayurvedic Herbs, Karta Purkh Singh Khalsa and Michael Tierra, 2008)

Cinnamon: increase circulation to the joints (to encourage healing) (same sources as above)

Ginger: increase circulation to the joints (to encourage healing) (same sources as above)

Banana: potassium, but mostly in there to make it creamier.

Pineapple: Vitamin C and bromelain to reduce inflammation and speed healing (University of Maryland Medical Center,, among others listed above and below)

Vanilla: it was all about flavor on this one.

Carrot: Vitamin A and beta-carotene offer up an anti-oxidant value to assist with healing

Hemp Seed:  I stuck that in there to make it a little more creamy and to add some protein in order to sustain you.

I also used the following sources, but I’m too tired to go back in there and fish out which source I got what from:
